Context and Objectives
Public Administrations work daily with large amounts of data, both structured and unstructured, from which useful insights can be drawn to support informed decision-making, interpret phenomena, and assess the impact of initiatives and policies. For this reason, it is essential to master key techniques and tools for data collection, analysis and interpretation, in order to identify relevant aspects and emerging relationships.
The course explains, in a simple and accessible way, some fundamental aspects of descriptive statistics and provides the basic tools needed to collect data in an orderly and consistent manner. It also presents a number of techniques for identifying relationships and calculating summary indicators. The course has a practical approach, aimed at enabling participants to apply the techniques learned quickly, also through active participant engagement.
Within this framework, the objectives of the course can be summarised as follows:
- Understand the aims and limitations of statistical data collection
- Master the basic techniques of data analysis
- Be able to use the main MS Excel functions for data analysis
- Be capable of identifying relationships between variables
- Know how to set up an impact evaluation
- Share insights and experiences
